Composer Guillermo A. Gómez was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and grew up in
beautiful San José, Costa Rica. Attended the
British School of Costa Rica,
where he completed the International General Certificate of Secondary
Education (I.G.C.S.E.), National and International Baccalaureates and
graduated in 1995. In 1996 briefly attended Medical School in Costa
Rica, following his parent’s steps. In January of 1997 came to the United
States to pursue a career in Music.
Guillermo attended
West Chester University and graduated in May
of 2002, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition.
Guillermo is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Library Science to compliment his
musical career. He recently enrolled in the
Music for The Media online film
scoring course. Scoring for film is one of his ultimate goals. His favorite
film composers include Alan Silvestri, John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, James
Horner, Alan Menken, Ennio Morricone, among others.
Guillermo’s music has been influenced by the music of
American Composer Samuel Barber, especially Barber’s Adagio for
Strings and Overture for the School for Scandal. The
Impressionistic music of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel, as
well as the Minimalist music of Steve Reich and John Adams
have also influenced his compositional style.
Guillermo’s music has been performed at the New Music
Concert series of West Chester University and by the North Coventry
Elementary school choir.
